Tuesday night saw the first in our series of The Side Room Spotlight Debates take place in the very apt “side room” of The Castle in Farringdon. And as you can imagine, with these types of evenings, you’re never really sure how they will go; where questions will lead and how heated the discussions will become – exciting!
Our three panelists –
Were all from very different areas of expertise – but with one commonality; they are all entrepreneurs – enthralled our audience; inspiring, motivating, imparting advice and at points amusing them. As did Lauren, our Chair for the evening.
Some of the topics up for discussion were:
Women as champions – do women when they reach high positions ‘pull up the drawbridge’ to others – what’s your experience?
Women make up 47% of the workplace, but only 14% of executive positions and 3% of CEOs – what needs to change to redress the balance?
Do women need to work twice as hard as men to succeed in the same field?
With additional questions submitted via Twitter and from the audience – one of which was surrounding the notion that we (as a nation) should even be debating whether a women is capable of occupying a senior position whilst pregnant – the answer…a resounding YES!
I do think that everyone most certainly left the event having learnt something different and met someone new.
See you at the next one…
We’re always on the lookout for interesting topics for discussion and amazing women to be on our panel, so please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you’ve a suggestion.
